Enterprise Program Start-Up

Setting up a program well is crucial for eventual success. Many programs struggle to navigate the grey space between “We need to do something” and “We know exactly what we need to do and how to do it.” I have developed a structured and proven framework that guides a team through the complex and confusing Discovery phase.

What I Offer

Using my experience leading successful large programs I will guide you through the journey of setting up your program. In addition to the foundational aspects of best-of-breed program structure, I will work with your team to create the Culture of Trust that powers great Enterprise Program Delivery.

I will lead a series of workshops, typically over a total of five days, to define the program. You provide access to the people and existing information about the program.

I will guide the team through a structured framework that will discover the key elements of delivery:

  • Problem Definition
    • Context – where are we, and how did we get here?
    • Who are the key stakeholders?
    • What do the key stakeholders expect?
    • Goal – Where do we need to be?
    • Benefits – How will this program create value?
    • Success Criteria – How will we know we’ve arrived?
  • Solution Exploration
    • What are the elements we need to meet our success criteria?
    • What are the minimal elements that deliver value?
  • Planning
    • How do we need to structure the work?
    • What activities need to happen to create the elements of value?
    • When can we deliver them?
  • Execution
    • How are we going to organise the team?
    • How will information flow?
    • How will we make decisions?
    • How do we create a Culture of Trust – Behaviours, Conversations, Commitments

From the workshops I will deliver:

  • A Project Charter documenting the context, scope, and plan for delivery
  • A Risk Register
  • A Stakeholder Map
  • The initial Delivery Plan
  • Roles and Responsibilities
  • A documented Way of Working including expected behaviours and cultural goals

I will work with the Delivery Team as they move out of Discovery and into Delivery, providing advice, guidance, coaching, and support as they take ownership of the interactions, conversations, and artefacts that comprise a successful delivery culture.

I aim to deliver the first outcome in 6-12 weeks.

Once the team has delivered the first outcome I lead a Review Workshop where we identify the lessons learned, and commit to any needed improvements.

At this point, we end my engagement. There is no risk of an open-ended commitment, and you are confident that your program has been set off on the right path with a culture of Transparency and Trust.
